Mourning Beloveth 'A Disease for the Ages'

Mourning Beloveth is a doom metal band that plays music in the vein of Novembers Doom and (the older) My Dying Bride without the keyboards and with very little clean vocals. Heavy and slow, like a bulldozer, but sharp as a razor.

The fourth full length from these Irish contains five songs, but with an average of over ten minutes per song, this still makes almost 56 minutes of haunting dark music. This music demands that you listen to it very, very loud with darkness surrounding you, except for some burning candles, whilst you sit in a luxurious armchair, having a couple of bottles of good wine nearby and letting the music take over your body. But turning up the volume in your own bedroom will also give an acceptable experience.

My experience with doom metal is that I have to hear the music a couple of times before it starts to grow on me. This album is no different that way. The heavy songs sweep you off your feet, and you will need time to fully get your head around them. But when you do, this stone will appear a gem, and will have enough power to mesmerize you until the summer has finally passed.
