Mourning Beloveth - "Dust" (8 / 10)

This Irish quintet was founded in the winter of '92. They released their first demo in 1996 and a second one in '98. "Dust" is their first full length release it holds five songs plus one hidden instrumental track and clocks in just over one hour. Needless to say that all songs are long tunes. Mourning Beloveth is a doom / death metal band. The songs are slow dragging monsters filled with low tuned distorted guitars, hypnotizing drumming and mournful singing. Vocals are done by a deep grunt and also clean vocals are used throughout the recording. "Dust" is not a recording that will turn your mood into joy and happiness. The music is dark, tearful, mournful and depressing. The lyrics talk about suffering, desolation, pain and depressions. Occasionally they step on the gas pedal a bit but the main portion of this album is beautiful depressing sounding. Listening to this CD brings back memories of the old My Dying Bride sound. Although Mourning Beloveth does not use violins. These Irishmen are a talented outfit who deliver a nice slab of depressing music.
