From Noise-Web
Mourning Beloveth began from the ashes of a death metal band some ten years ago. We recorded our first demo in 1996 with myself as engineer and a few months later I joined on bass. We quickly recorded our well-received second demo Autumnal Fires. We played some gigs in Ireland and recorded our debut album Dust in Academy Studios in 2000. This was a self-financed album and we released it ourselves in 2001. We played some gigs with Cathedral and later with Cradle of Filth and in 2002 we recorded our second album. The Sullen Sulcus, again in Academy. In the meantime we re-released Dust on Sentinel Records and when our latest album the Sullen Sulcus was recorded we released it with a Norwegian label Aftermath Music. In February 2003 we embarked on the Doomination of Europe with Morgion and the Prophecy, 2 weeks across Europe. August 2003 we brought the Doomination tour to America for 4 weeks. We have had the same line up since our second demo (Darren-vocals, frank-guitar+vocals, Adrian-bass, Brian-guitar, Tim-drums) and we have just released a new song on a split 7" with fellow countrymen Lunar gate, it has been released on Sentinel Records. 2004 saw us on tour with While Heaven Wept and playing the Doom Shall Rise festival in Germany as well as writing and recording our third album which will be released by German label Grau at the end of this month. It was recorded at the Studio E in Germany. Home of Markus(Empyrium & The Vision Bleak). 2. What a great evolution you made since Dust (really influenced by My Dying Bride, Anathema)! Your music is now more personal and inventive, don't you think? Yes we do think so. It's a lot more personal now as we have really forged our own identity within the metal scene. This new album even sees us straying a bit away from the doom scene but still retaining the elements of doom that will always be part of our core sound. It was a privilege to be compared to MDB and the rest but we are not clones and want to show people that we can do our own thing. The latest reviews are again mentioning how we are striving forward on our own steam and we don't get the lazy journalism side comments about who we are compared to. It is nice to be compared to MDB in the same sentence but at this stage of our career we just about belong to the same genre. Their's being more in sync with the gothic scene now. 3. You are all from Ireland, what can you tell us about the scene there? The scene in Ireland is very strong at the moment. 4. So, what do you think about the new Primordial album? (beautiful isn't it??) It is very good. It took a while to grow on me as far as the vocals are concerned but it shows a great maturity on the bands part as a whole in my opinion. They are the biggest metal band in Ireland and long may it continue. (We are there in close 2nd!!)The dirty raw sound on the new album is another shift in terms of sound for them and seems to work as well as stuff in the past. 5. Never thought about doing a tour or an album together? We are actually working on playing 2 gigs together in Germany in July. This will be the first time I think that 2 Irish bands will have played on foreign soil together so I am really looking forward to it. We have talked about the possibility of an all Irish band tour, say 3 or 4 bands. It would be a crazy tour regardless of what bands would be on it and the thought of still frightens us!! It will eventually happen though and it promises to be very interesting. 6. You have a deal with Aftermath Records, are you satisfied about it? We don't have a deal with Aftermath anymore. That was just for the Sullen Sulcus album. We are now signed to Grau from Germany. We were looking for a bigger label with better distribution and it wasn't until a month after we booked the studio that the deal with Grau came through. 7. What influences you when you create the music of MB? It can be anger. It can be a feeling of sorrow. It can be a memory or something that is happening when you have the guitar in your hand. I suppose we are all different in how we are influenced to play whatever comes into our heads when composing. Travelling on a bus and staring out the window always influences me but I hate bus travel. I have a car and it doesn't work the same. Maybe I should crash it so I will have to take the bus forever 8. What is the murderous circus? Our life is a circus and it's killing us everytime we open our eyes to
see and our mouth to 9. Your new album is less narrative and more based on riffs and emotion? Beautiful and majestic, don't you think? Yes, The image the riffs paint on this album don't require as many lyrics as before and that was Darren's intention as the music progressed in its writing stage. We put a lot of thought and effort into keeping it minimal and not overexposing the creativity. 10. I really think that a murderous circus is better than the Sullen Sulcus(which was huge), don't you think? It's a completely different album really. The sound on TSS was huge yes you are right. With that album we wanted to build a huge wall of sound to envelope the listener and drag them down to a submissive state of mind. With the Circus CD we wanted to take a hammer to that wall and shower the listener with shards of glass and kick them in the face a little. The overall sound on the new album has a greater attack. It's the style of riffing and the blend of melancholy and disgust that is force fed to us by the world we live in. 11. What's your favourite song on this new album? I would have to say This Crashing wave. I am also proud of track 5 Yet Everything because of the end piece with the samples. It was an idea I had during the Dust recording session but it is only suitable to use now on this album. It is hard to pick out a favourite though ,even at this stage of it being a few months since its been recorded. I couldn't listen to the album myself for many weeks after the recording to try and get a fresh perspective on it at a later stage. 12. Is there any particular theme develop during the album? (I mean in the lyrics) A Murderous Circus deals with extremes in life, questioning why we live
the way we live, is it 13. Is there a chance you will play in France (I can maybe help you to play in north of France if you want) or Belgium this year ? We are playing at the Espace Curial in Paris on the 14th of April as
guests to Chilean 14. Did you think of making a festival this year? We are in talks with a few festivals about playing there this year. No
news yet but hopefully this summer will see us on some of the bigger stages
across Europe. 15. What are the future plans of the MB? We want to play as many gigs overseas as possible this year. We will
start to write the new album before December and hopefully get our DVD
released before the end of the year. 16. A last word for our readers and your french fans? Merci de l'entrevue. J'espère voir beaucoup de vous à
notre gig à Paris en avril et si pas Doom on
.
